Perrin's research team noted that proper MAF alignment and plumbing size are crucial to maintain proper air fuel ratios and prevent nasty check engine lights that plague many competitors' intake designs. Each Intake System includes high quality clamps, and super tuff wrinkle red or black powder coating, silicone couplers, a PERRIN Performance foam air filter, MAF sensor housing and mounting hardware.
Perrin has found putting the filter into the fender to be the best way to get consistent cold air into the engine. They have found that its not the engine (at the intake manifold level) getting colder air that makes power, but that the MAF sensor reading colder air. There are maps in the ECU that effect timing, boost and fueling if the MAF sensor see air temps exceed a certain amount. The short ram intake doesn't have this problem except for in situations like stop and go traffic. The cold air intake system eliminates the issue altogether.
This means for more consistent temps at the sensor, and in turn more consistent power, more consistent runs when dyno tuning, and overall smoother power. The cold air intake uses the same tried and true MAF housing Perrin has used in the years past, which means no CEL! The Perrin MAF housing and intake systems replicate the MAF curve nearly perfectly so off the shelf tuned maps can be supplied with no issues.
