This side splitter kit is manufactured in "dry" carbon fiber composite material. Not only does this give the Z06 a more finished appearance, but it offers improved durability. Side splitters (sometimes called side skirts, rocker extensions, etc.) are a valuable component in tuning the aerodynamics of a race/performance vehicle. Think of them as an air-management device. At high speeds, a large volume of air travels along the sides of the vehicle. Without this side splitter, some of this air is allowed to "roll" underneath the rocker panels. This ends up affecting the underbody airflow - which is not a good thing. We want to keep the underbody airflow as smooth as possible, and make sure to keep extraneous amounts of air (such as air from the sides of the vehicle) from entering the underbody area.
