Subaru WRX/STi (GD)Strut Bars
A front strut bar is a simple part. When put to use, the effects of a strut bar can really be felt. Whether a strut bar is the first mod to your WRX/STi or the 'icing on the cake' it is pretty much a staple of import vehicle modification. The only problem is that there are so many to choose from and only certain strut bars will fit certain year WRX's and STi's, making things a bit more complicated. The 02-05 WRX may require slight A/C line bracket movement/bending in order for a strut bar to install without any fitment issues. The extent of this modification to the A/C line bracket is usually simply popping the A/C line out of the bracket, removing a bolt and rotating the bracket to its 'upside-down' position, then popping the A/C line back into place in its bracket.
The 04-05 STi may have similar issues to the 02-05 WRX, but may also have TMIC clearance problems. This can be solved by bending the TMIC brackets downward to lower the TMIC's position. The problem usually doesn't exist for those with FMIC's though.
For the 06-07 WRX and STi, we cannot guarantee fitment of any of these bars. Only the GT Spec Type D and Perrin Performance may fit. The GT Spec Type D will still require A/C line and bracket movement and/or modification. Please see a helpful video HERE.
In summary, while all 02-07 WRX's and STi's may seem to be able to accept the same strut bars, the reality is that clearance issues exist. Please understand that your purchase of any strut bar implies your acceptance of the possible necessity to make modifications for the strut bar to fit.
